Networking Revolution:: Stop Chasing the Chasers

mlmIn the arena of internet marketing and online networking the experts teach us to search in social media for the type of people you want to do business with. This is good advice but most people interpret it incorrectly. The automatic assumption is that people building a mlm business should seek out people on Facebook and Twitter who are talking about, or already participating in Network Marketing. This is usually done by searching for keywords such as MLM, home based business, opportunity, etc. THIS IS A POOR STRATEGY!

If you follow this line of logic you are most likely to find yourself chasing the other chasers. You might build good friendships with these like minded people, but the chances of doing business with them is greatly limited.

When you are taught to network with people in social media, that you would like to do business with, you need to be looking for the people who will be naturally attracted to you. People with whom you can create a fast friendship and establish common ground. In short, search for people who share your passions. If you are particularly into scuba diving, chess, or fashion then you need to find the people who share that passion.

ACTION: Re-Read my post on Utilizing your Passions in Attraction Marketing and then create a list of keywords that you can use to identify people who share those passions on Twitter and Facebook.

My TOP SECRET “Indiana Jones” Hobby:: You Too Can Be Cool with GeoCaching

What is GeoCaching? It is the fastest growing family friendly global outdoor hobby. What a mouthful. The hobby is basically a GPS treasure hunting game in which players hide hidden containers (caches) in both urban and rural places for other players to find. Players often leave items or trade items between caches.

geocachingWHY? Why not? This is awesome fun. Just the mere idea that there are hidden containers with random objects within 100 yards of your home (probably) and you don’t know about it…. that’s cool. It bec0mes even more cool when you do know about it but think you are the only person in your neighborhood who does.

HOW TO START GEOCACHING? I am in the process of creating a site called StartGeocaching.com where people can go to get free information about this hobby. You can visit the site right now and request a free copy of the Start Geocaching electronic guide to be emailed to you. That will get you rolling. As for gear you just need a handheld GPS device and if you have an iPhone or Android phone that will do just fine. There are apps available for download. You will also need an account on Geocaching.com so you can view geocaches near you.

Internet Marketing Methods Are Only Good For As Long As They Are…

I have been in marketing and sales my entire life. It might be better to say that sales and marketing are a part of all of our lives; and so I have worked hard to understand what general techniques or principles are most effective. In all the different types of work I have done, I have been able to construct a series of well proven principles that seem to be true in all forms of marketing.

Today I want to discuss the principle of uniqueness. I have observed that sales techniques tend to be effective for as long as they are unique. Or, better worded; techniques are good for as long as the customer doesn’t expect them. When training sales reps in a variety of industries I also pose the question, “What is your customer expecting you to say, and also what is the last thing your customer would expect you to say?” For a few years I worked as a door to door salesman of Dish Network TV. After time testing a variety of approaches I found that my most effective approach tended to be, “Hi, my name is Jacob and I am a salesman. Do you still have cable?”

This approach was effective because it was the last thing that any customer actually expected too come from my mouth. Now as my experience in Internet Marketing is evolving I am starting to recognize the dying techniques that people are using. Don’t get me wrong, there are techniques in use right now that are still bringing in new people but they are dying out. Its time for the online sales process to evolve and I am looking for the new innovations but not finding them.marketing

The age of sales letters, Ebook giveaways, and auto responders is dwindling. The systems and techniques have become far too common place. There are now sales-letters selling sales-letters, giveaways of giveaway systems, and auto-responders to promote auto-responder systems. The Mike Dillard ripple is beginning to die off and the best of the best are trying to discover something new. Recent attempts to innovate with subtle changes to include social media networks or techniques have brought little to no innovation at all. All of this is still working today because the methods are still mostly new to most of the world. (Its hard for those of us involved in internet marketing to remember that people outside the industry don’t see and hear it everyday.)

The key is in breaking patterns. Effective marketing approaches, ad headlines, and videos break our normal patterns. People have to pay attention and getting someone to do that is almost impossible. You have to disrupt their comfort zone.

ACTION: All sales systems in all industries require this constant process of innovation and change. Ask yourself what your customers are starting to recognize as the standard sales pitch. Ask yourself what your customers would not expect to hear.

Filtering Through Facebook:: Social Media Video Tutorial

facebookAs important as Facebook is to Social Networking and as fun as it can be in maintaining friendships it still can drain you of time and energy as you attempt to wade through your news feed. Facebook users spend an average of 19 minutes on the site per visit making it the top site in the world within that category.

If you are anything like most of those users you might spend a good number of those 19 average minutes looking through the vampire quizzes, virtual zoos, and other complete nonsense that you don’t care about. You might also get sick of all the emails you receive every time you get poked or somebody you don’t know comments on your friend’s status that you “liked.”

This tutorial video will show you how to navigate Facebook, filtering out the junk you don’t care to see and eliminating the emails you don’t care to receive.

Harry Potter on Personal Development:: Relationships Are Your Greatest Asset

Of all the things I have learned from the Harry Potter saga, this is the most powerful to me. If you were to ask yourself what was Harry Potter’s greatest strength or asset; what would you say? I would say, “his friends.”

The strength of any person can be measured by those who are loyal to him. This was well illustrated by both Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore, who had such a large number of loyal followers, we cannot begin to list all of them. I hesitate to use the word followers, lest each of us think we need to gain followers (not referring to twitter friends). What I really mean by followers, is people who would readily come to your aid; people who would willing sacrifice their own needs or possessions to grant yours. In effect, people who love you.

harrypotterWe see this pattern over and over as Harry’s friends including Ron, Hermoine, Neville, Luna, & Ginny willingly put their own needs behind them in an effort to help and assist Harry. This was because of both their love for Harry and for their love of Harry’s cause.

Adults were equally drawn in to him. Dumbledore, Lupin, McGonagall, Hagrid, the Weasleys, and countless others were willing to sacrifice their own lives for him and several did.

Creatures including Dobby, Creature, Buckbeak, and Hedwig were eager to defend him and his interests.

The greatest assets anyone can have in their lives are the relationships they build. If you are a religious person, you understand further that your greatest asset is your greatest relationship; the one with your divine creator.

Cherish the people around you. Give them a reason to believe in you by believing in them. Relationships go both ways. The people who have the greatest influence and power, are those who have learned to love and cherish the greatest number of people.

MLM:: Plan of Action

Goals are a big part of any business. Over time we have been taught a lot about setting effective goals including the power of written goals. What a lot of people don’t understand is the importance of an action plan. Without a step by step plan to reach your goal you have nothing more than a wish.

plan-of-actionAction Plans generally have 3 parts. Each action plan should reflect your goals, the steps you must take to accomplish them, and what will be required of other third parties to make it happen. Third parties may include a business partner, your spouse, or even your creator. In your MLM business this most often includes your upline leadership or company executives.

Your action plan should be written down and signed by all the parties involved. Display it in a place where you will see it regularily and if possible a location where you are in a position to take the most action such as your desk or office.

I have built a simple MLM action plan that you can download here.
